Southern Animal Foundation provides TNR by appointment only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. You can book an appointment for 1-2 cats at a time. Call to book an appointment BEFORE you start trapping. Call to schedule here: 504-671-8235​. Once you have an appointment booked, start trapping the night before your appointment or very early the morning of your appointment. All cats must be in a trap. They cannot be in a carrier. The trap must be covered. You can rent a trap from the LA SPCA, Jefferson Feed, or you can borrow one from us. You should already have an appointment booked before coming to get a trap. If you are unable to trap the cat for your appointment, please call to cancel the appointment as soon as possible so they can give it to someone else.

Once you have trapped the cat, check to be sure it doesn't already have an eartip. If it has an eartip, release the cat because it has already been through a TNR program. If it does not have an eartip, label the trap with your name, address, phone number and a description of what the cat looks like (such as gray tabby adult or black and white adult). You can just write on a piece of duck tape and put it on top of the trap. You can also take a picture of your cat so you can refer back to it if needed. Be sure there is newspaper in the bottom of the trap when you trap them. And be sure to cover the trap with a towel or pillowcase at all times to keep the cat calm.

Bring the cat to Southern Animal Foundation the morning of your appointment between 8:00am and 9:00am. Bring the cat inside, and check in with the receptionist at the front desk. The cost of the TNR is $50 per cat and includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, and an eartip. You will pay the $50 to Southern Animal Foundation. If you cannot afford to pay, we can help you cover the costs. Ask for a voucher and fill it out, if you need us to pay it. But please donate what you can towards the cost, as we have limited funds and rely on donations to raise money. There will be a donation QR code attached to the voucher if you can donate, even if it's just $10. Everything helps.

You will pick up the cat between 4pm and 5pm on the same day. Double check that the cat inside the trap is your cat. Make sure the cat matches the description you labeled the trap with. You can even check your picture that you took to be sure. Better to be safe than sorry! Also make sure they have given the cat an eartip. You will have to hold the cat in the trap overnight at your house. It cannot be released the same day due to the anesthesia. It can be released the following morning. You can offer the cat a small amount of food and water once it is fully awake. 

The cat must be returned to the SAME LOCATION where you trapped it. It is illegal to relocate or dump cats in other locations, because it is cruel and inhumane to the cat. It has no resources and the cat often dies trying to return to its own territory.

Once the cat has been released, please discard of all trash in the trap and return it to the location you got it from. Other people are waiting to use the traps! If you borrowed the trap from us, please leave your name and info on the trap so we can mark it off as returned.
